Welcome to the official website of Ravenna Township
History of the Township Flag Pole Some residents love it and some hate it, but the flagpole in front of the Portage County Courthouse in Ravenna is a distinctive landmark that can be seen for miles and marks Ravenna’s downtown area. In 1893 a flag pole was erected in Ravenna Township. In the fall of 1923, it was moved to its present location on land that was donated to the township by the Tappen family. This flag pole is costly to maintain simply by its height and the manner in which it was erected in 1923. In 1994, the estate of Ralph A. Hinman bequeathed money to Ravenna Township for the maintenance of the flag pole. The Township now uses the interest from this bequest to purchase flags for the pole.
