    About RTFD

 

The Ravenna Township Fire Department was founded in 1994 and has grown into one of the premier fire departments in Portage County. The fire station is located at 6115 South Spring Street in Ravenna Township.

The RTFD utilizes a combination of fulltime and part time firefighters to staff the department in 24-hour shifts, 365 days per year. The department averages approximately 1300 responses per year, with emergency medical service comprising 85% of the calls and also provides EMS coverage for the Village of Brady Lake.

Department EMTs and paramedics have received training in Advance Life Support, Trauma Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support and receive cutting edge continuing education topics. In 2003, the RTFD was the first fire department in the State of Ohio to host the Advance Airway Pig Lab, which was instructed by the Center for EMS Education and Research.

Fire Training

RTFD Members are required to attend mandatory training and complete skills evaluations on a semi-annual basis. Members have experienced training in subjects as diverse from Meth Lab Awareness to Live Fire Training. RTFD members have gone though a minimum of 40 hours of Rapid Intervention Team and  Firefighter Survival Training.

 

 

 

 

Dive Rescue

Dive RescueThe RTFD participants in the Portage County Water Rescue Team and has a compliment of 13 certified Public Safety Divers and Rescue Divers. The fire department was the first in the U.S. to have all members certified in Shore Support Operations.
 

               Fire Prevention & Fire Safety Education

State Certified Fire Inspectors perform occupancy inspections for fire hazards at all Ravenna Township businesses. Several RTFD members have received specialized State Certifications as Fire Safety Educators and Juvenile Firesetter Counselors. The fire prevention staff also includes a Public Information Officer who is charged with disseminating accurate and timely information regarding news or special events.
