It is improtant to have your chimney clean.  Creosote buildup can lead to chimney fires that can spread to other areas of your house.  Inspect your chimney for creosote buildup or have it inspected by a chimney sweep.  If the buildup is ¼ inch thick or more you should have your chimney cleaned.
